when i'm at my friend's house, visiting his chickens, he gives me a hammer in case the dog gets out and decides it wants to attack me. it's been smacked on the head with it before... it just doesn't learn.
amoeba - There are worse things to go on the offensive or defensive with than a hammer. I'm just saying that it wouldn't hurt to carry something more effective in case the situation arises. pooky - Pain doesn't teach dogs anything, but I've learned that most of them back off if you give them a good hard swat on the nose. This messes up their senses and disorients the hell out of them. For the larger ones, it's usually just best to turn tail and split.
poor dog. my neighbor does that to his all the time, and it's a good dog, really...the guy just hates dogs. you shouldn't have to hurt the thing if it was trained the correct way.

Most dogs are pretty slow learners. Unless you smacked him on the head with the hammer every time he did something bad he won't be able to associate the hammer with being bad and getting hit with it. Of course the point of smacking the dog on the head with the hammer isn't to teach him not to be bad, but to stop him from attacking you. But, yeah, he probably won't ever learn if his owner doesn't train him properly not to attack people.
his owner (my friend's mom) is psycho. the dog has attacked people (mainly my friend) before, and my friend tried to get rid of it but his mom found it somehow. i'd rather smack the dog in the head then have a chunk taken out of me. i don't like pain, it hurts me.
and on the violence note: i've found a good, firm smack in the nuts works well.

Well, I'd never hurt an animal out of wanton spite, but anything that comes at me unprovoked is going to get some whack or the other if I think I can take it. Still, I think that cruelty to animals really is a shame.

a good one goes for only $700? i'd think the couple thousand fold-heat-beat-repeat sequences would make one a bit more pricey...o.0 but then i don't know much about weapons, heh.
